Administrative Law aims at keeping the government authorities within their bounds, so that the legitimate interests of citizens do not suffer. Also ensures that the duties of the public authorities are performed well, so as to provide justice to the citizens. To unravel the way in which these administrative authorities could be kept within their limits so that the discretionary powers may not be turned into arbitrary powers.
The functions of state have multiplied manifold, as it is not a police state or a laissez-faire state, but is a welfare state, which indulges in multifarious activities, taking care of its citizens from the cradle to the grave. Secondly, the judiciary is rather slow, expensive and formal. This led to the establishment of specialised tribunals like industrial tribunals, tax tribunals, labour courts, and so on.
